India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has taken a step into the rising electrical air taxi sector with an fairness funding in Bengaluru-based startup Sarla Aviation.
The airline has invested Rs 10 crore by means of its funding arm, IndiGo Ventures, in January, in line with regulatory filings.
Sarla Aviation, based in 2023, is creating a hybrid-electric eVTOL plane to be used as a flying taxi. Its flagship mannequin, Shunya, is meant for city transport and is predicted to launch in Bengaluru by 2028.
Shunya is designed to seat six passengers plus one pilot, whereas the plane has a cargo configuration with a payload capability of as much as 680 kilograms.
